Dr. Chris Cobourn is a fellowship-trained General Surgeon who has received extensive training in the use and placement of the Lap-Band and the Gastric Balloon.
In 1991, he introduced laparoscopic surgery to the Mississauga area, and since then has been focusing his time and practice on advanced laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Cobourn has expertise in advanced laparoscopic procedures including gallbladder removal, hernia repair, advanced bowel surgery, spleen removal and Lap-Band surgery. In addition to his active practice in advanced laparoscopic surgery, he also specializes in Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery and has full hospital privileges at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Dr. Cobourn has been very active in learning and performing new surgical procedures throughout his career and attends many conferences and courses each year to maintain and enhance his surgical expertise.
As an internationally respected and sought after speaker, Dr. Cobourn is honoured to receive the opportunity to speak to the medical community on various topics regarding obesity and weight loss programs offered at the SmartShape Weight Loss Centre. In 2011, he was invited to speak at the two most prestigious international obesity conferences, the 2nd Annual Obesity Summit and the XVI World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders in Hamburg, Germany. Currently, he is serving on expert committees and panels to establish worldwide standards and practices for bariatric surgery.
Dr. Cobourn is the current Medical Director & Surgeon at the Smartshape Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga offering the most comprehensive weight loss management programs such as the Lap-Band, Gastric Balloon and Sleeve Gastrectomy to achieve sustained weight loss and improvement of appearance and quality of life.
