What is an Ambulatory Surgery Centre?

Ambulatory Surgery Surgical Centres are multi-specialty facilities that provide personalized surgical services for generally healthy patients requiring day or overnight stay procedures. These facilities make use of highly advanced equipment to minimize the invasive surgery and reducing post-operative pain and complications.

We hold accreditation from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia, ensuring the highest standards of quality of care are met for all patients.
We are also a member of The Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (CAAASF).

Do you have extended hours? Weekends?

Yes, False Creek Surgical Centre makes time available to see patients at a variety of hours in order to accommodate everyone. False Creek currently offers consultations and surgery six days a week: Monday to Friday 7:30 am – 6:00 pm and Saturdays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Do you send out information?

Yes, we can send you information pertaining to the surgical procedure(s) you are interested in, our facility and financing. Please send us an email with your request using our contact form.

Do you have a charge for consultations?

For cosmetic consultations it is a one-time fee only. You meet directly with the Plastic Surgeon and the fee is $100.
SPECIAL! For a limited time your cosmetic consult fee can be applied towards the cost of your approved cosmetic surgery if booked within 4 weeks of consultation.

For non-cosmetic consultations costs please discuss with our advisors.

How long is the consultation?

Consults are dependent upon the patient’s needs. Generally they last between 30 – 40 min.

Do I qualify for Surgery?

Some patients cannot be considered for surgical procedures at our facility as per the regulations of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. These are patients who are very overweight (BMI greater than 35 with high body fat), patients with bleeding disorders or multiple severe medical disorders that would put them at high risk for anesthesia. Patients undergoing weight loss surgery ARE eligible for surgery with certain restrictions even though their BMI is high.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financial programs.

When do I pay for elective surgery?

We require full payment two weeks prior to surgery. Various pay methods are available.

How soon after the consultation can I have the surgery?

Anywhere between 1 to 6 weeks.

How long have the Surgeons been practicing?

Our highly skilled surgeons have a range of experience and expertise. Please ask one of our advisors for more information about a specific surgeon.

Where does the surgery take place?

Surgery takes place at our facility. We have 4 state of the art operating rooms, a large post-operative recovery unit and eight overnight stay rooms. False Creek Healthcare Centre is located just outside the core of downtown Vancouver near Broadway and Cambie Street. (see map)

How do I get there by Driving?
Depending on what direction you are coming from the easiest way is to take either Broadway or Cambie Street. Coming from broadway turn onto cambie street. We are located just off Cambie on West 8th Avenue, near the Cambie street bridge. Nearby businesses include Whole Foods, Home Depot, Wendy’s and Best Buy.

Is there parking available?
There is a pay parking lot that serves our building (555) and the neighbouring building (575) underneath the Facility, the entrance is nearby on Ash Street. There is also limited pay parking at street level. Many patients also find it cheap and convenient to park in the whole foods parking lot directly across the street.

How do I get there by Transit?
Take the Canada Line to Broadway-City Hall Station. Walk 1 Block North to West 8th Avenue and turn left. The facility is halfway up the block at 555.
Take the 99-B-Line to Broadway and Cambie. Walk 1 Block North to West 8th Avenue and turn left. The facility is halfway up the block at 555 on the right side of the street.

Is there transit from the Airport?
The Canada Line rapid Transit train is a quick, quiet and cost-effective way to get to False Creek Healthcare Centre. It takes only 21 minutes to get from the airport to our facility with no transfers required. The cost of the fare is $9 to go to Vancouver.

Walk to the upper level of the international terminal and look for signage that says Canada Line. Exit the terminal and there will be a walkway across to the elevated station platform. The airport is the terminal station for Canada Line, get on any train as all trains are bound for Waterfront(Vancouver). Get off the train at the Broadway-City Hall Station and exit to the street. Walk 1 Block North to West 8th Avenue and turn left. The facility is halfway up the block at 555 on the right side of the street.

How do I choose the best surgeon?

Depending on the type of surgery our facility will place you with the surgeon that specializes in that particular procedure.

Can I see more than one surgeon?

Yes, we offer 2nd-opinion consultation for peace-of-mind.

Where can I check on the Surgeons past history?

All Surgeons are accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons in order to perform surgery at this facility. If you’d like to find any information beyond what is available from our advisors, you may reach the College of Physician and Surgeons of British Columbia at (604) 733 7758.

Can I see a specialist without a referral?

Yes, however you should always see your general practitioner first in order to decide what kind of Specialist you should be seeing.

If I’m an injured worker with a Worker’s Compensation Claim (WCB), can I request my general practitioner to refer me to a specialist at False Creek Surgical Centre?

Yes, it is your right to seek expedited medical advice from whomever and where ever you choose.

How fast can I get surgery done?

Following their expedited consultation, we can usually book surgery for patients within one to four weeks.

How many times before surgery will I have to come and see the Surgeon?

You may come as many times as you feel necessary, however, most patients come twice; the first consultation appointment usually follows up with a pre-operative appointment.

If you are from out of town or the country, you may do the pre-operative consultation at the time of the first consultation.

Do I need to have blood work done, or any other tests?

For patients that are 50 or older or patients with problems relating to high blood pressure we require an ECG test as well as hemoglobin and other blood work. Blood work is required with any surgery taking 3 hours or more. Other tests might be required depending on the physical history of the patient.
