Tumor Ablation

Women and Men from Vancouver and all across B.C. choose False Healthcare Centre because of board-certified surgeons Dr. Charles Scudamore and Dr. Donald Cooke. Our team of General surgeons has years of experience and excellence in performing radiofrequency ablation procedures.

Tumor ablation is a minimally invasive treatment for cancer that is designed to kill cancer cells by heating and destroying them. This procedure is an alternative to open surgery when such surgery is not a viable option for patients, often when other medical conditions increase the risk of complications.

What to Expect

During a tumor ablation procedure, your surgeon, guided by CT or ultrasound, inserts a thin needle through the skin and into the tumour. Electrical energy is delivered to the target area through this needle heating and destroying the tumour. The procedure is performed under a general anaesthesia.

In most cases, a tumour can be adequately treated with one tumor ablation session. The total procedure takes less than one hour and afterwards patients spend a night at our centre and can return home the next day. The procedure can be repeated if new cancer appears.

My sister has a Gastro-intestinal Stromal Tumour with Liver Mestases which is also cancer. She has several tumours in her stomach and liver. Could I send you her CT Scans so that you may have a look to see if there is anything she can do. She has been on Gleevec and Sutent for three years now and the tumours seem to be getting larger. Please help.

My son had a neurofibroma tumor removed from his pelvis (near the S1 level) over ten years ago. Since the surgery, he has suffered sever chronic leg pain, and has been taking a ‘cocktail’ of pain meds ever since that include gabapentim and m-eslon. Would radiofrequency ablation treatment help with his pain?
